Title: Syncro spare tire carrier
Post by: vanguy63 on January 25, 2016, 09:07:05 pm
I found a spare tire carrier from a Eurovan syncro.  I want to mount it on my 1997 Eurovan.  Has anyone done this that can give me some pointers?  are there reinforcement plates inside the body where the brackets go?

Does anyone sell the LED light replacement kit for the interior of the Eurovan?

thanks  a new guy

Great find -- lucky duck.

Here is a step by step guide (in German). Check this out: http://t4-wiki.de/wiki/Reserveradträger_(Syncro) (http://t4-wiki.de/wiki/Reserveradträger_(Syncro))

Edit: Actually after reading through that -- it doesn't look like all that much fun to install (cutting big holes through the D-pilar). I take back my comment about you being lucky.

If you aren't already committed to this sycnro solution -- I would recommend going with something similar to mounting a spare on a rear rack  and upgrading the hatch struts.  Check this out: http://vwrack.com

I agree. While it's a cool and practical rack unless you t4 came from the factory so equipped it is lacking the reinforced threaded bolt holes and recessed body panel. IMO best to come up with a custom solution off the rear hatch or just a generic hitch spare tire carrier.
