Westfalia / Re: Seized torsion bar nut

This happened to me too. The nut was seized and as I tried to loosen the bolt rotated out of its mount. Ended up cutting the bolt in two with an angle grinder and replacing both the nut and bolt; very easy to do. The parts were ordered from my local dealer without issue.

Upgraded my aux battery with a Napa agm group 94R. It's 80ah and requires no modification for it to fit. At $210 it's a bit cheaper than the Interstate; especially when you consider you don't need to buy a hold down or new ground wire.

Had a two week adventure planned.

Turned into this.

Resulting in this.

AC compressor blew a seal in the Sierra foothills with outside temps of 105*. Drove over Sonora Pass and pulled into Convict Lake outside of Mammoth only to find coolant and trans fluid in a big puddle under the van. Couldn't find anyone to help in town. Thankfully I had installed a trans dipstick. Topped it up and bought a couple of extra qts for our no AC drive down to Vegas past Death Valley at 117* and a pass at 9k'. Found a repair shop that could fix all the issues, but it would take a few days for parts. Rented a POS rv for the remainder of our trip through UT. Picked up the van a week and half later to a new AC system, new thermostat housing and thermostat, and new trans cooler lines. The damn hoses supplied with trans cooler from GTA were too big. Drove off with ice cold AC only to have the car die in 30 minutes. Turns out they didn't connect an alternator wire. Now we drive home over Tioga pass.

Exterior / Lifting a t4 advice

Gah, back at it. Installed 1.5" spacers at the back. Lifted the driver side front. But that damn torsion adjusting bolt on the passenger side front just wants to rotate out of its cradle. I got a little over stock ride height and now I'm pulling what's left of my hair out. I guess it's time to bite the bullet and by the gowesty deep 27mm.

Never checked back on this. I ended up pulling the bolt out and cleaning the crap out of it. On installation, when the bolt wanted to rotate out of the mount, I put a jack under the tire to add load. When it got too hard to turn the bolt I would lower the jack a bit making sure there still pressure on the bolt so it wouldn't rotate but where I could then turn the nut a bit more.

I'm at a loss. Used tons of brake clean/wire brush and penetrating oil. I might just replace the whole nut and bolt to make it easier.

Any tips on lifting the passenger side front would be appreciated. I get to a certain point and the bolt wants to rotate out of the mounting holes. Only way I found to counteract this was to drop the tire to the ground. When I do that it's virtually impossible to tighten the nut.

Winnebago "Full Campers" / 97 EVC Headlights always on?
« on: June 30, 2016, 09:05:12 pm »
From lightsout.org: 2000-2002 VW Eurovan. Remove 4 screws holding panel in place just above cup holder console on dash. Behind that you will find several relays. Yank the one labeled with the big 94. This will essentially make your headlight switch an on/off switch only.

Doesn't have info on early model EVs. Maybe there's something similar for the '97s. Someone on vortex said it's the 194 relay.

Looks like there are a few types. Some with navigation too.

Not a lot of info available on the site. Here's a side view.

I'm going to give the Power Acoustik PD-714HB a try. Single din internals with a 7" face.

Great seller. I received the tool kit and its in great condition. I can't wait to use them and enjoy an easy ball joint replacement.  ;D Thank you albertr!

Any chance you'd want to sell or rent your new baby after you do your ball joints? I've had two upper joints gathering dust in my closet.

Decal erasers are great. Another option for removing stickers, adhesive lined sound deadening, gasket material, etc is a heated sticker remover You simply insert a razor blade, plug in and go to town (carefully). That's what I used to get the Winne sticker of my last EVC.
