Title: 03’ MV sliding door issues
Post by: Gypsymobile on April 10, 2018, 11:10:52 am
Hey fellas,

Newb here for the diy world on Vdubs repairs, so I’m looking for some advice on how to fix a sliding door that won’t latch.

This problem has presented itself a few weeks ago and is intermittent. My immediate remedy was to hulk out on closing the door, but that wouldn’t work all the time either (lack of force in the administrator for sure).

Anywho, what gives, and what should I replace? (Before she flies open on the freeway again, or before a window shatters trying to have it close/larch)

Thanks in advance for your replies fellas

On the back and rear of the sliding door is a the latch mechanism held in by one or two screws.  Unscrew clean and the use silicone to lube, that should do the trick. This happened to me especially during cold weather.  In the case your in the middle of nowhere and it is not catching, instead of slamming the door really hard.  Push in on the back of the sliding door while closing.  That will close it until you can lube it.  Good luck.
