VR6 Engine tech / Re: Traction Control and ABS Light
« on: May 23, 2016, 06:42:00 am »
Thanks for the response Robinson.  The vacuum hose between the two coolant lines running through the firewall is secure.  I have had that one come loose before and seen its affect on the van.  Interestingly though, the no air coming through the vents until you start driving has ceased.  Not sure what that was.  I checked the speed sensors and that appeared to be working correctly.  No codes from a vagcom...I'm still experiencing the mysterious ABS and traction control lights.  When I turn off the traction control it usually delays or sometimes prevents the ABS from coming on.  If you leave the traction control on though that almost ensures that both light swill quickly come on.  Thanks for the feedback and if anyone has some ideas please keep them coming.

VR6 Engine tech / Traction Control and ABS Light
« on: May 14, 2016, 07:42:23 am »
I have an 03 MV, recently the traction control light and ABS lights have started coming on randomly.  It seems to be preceded with the traction control light blinking, lose of power from the gas pedal, and a clicking noise under the passenger side of the dash, I assume that is where the relay is.  This symptom only seems to happen when making a right turn of varying degree, either a shallow curve or a hard turn.  If I let off of the gas the light will stop blinking and I get power back.  However, not too long after this and randomly both the lights will come on and stay on.

Not sure if this is a related symptom, again just recently on engine startup air won't blow through the front air vents.  I have to drive for about 5-10 seconds and then you can hear a click from somewhere under the dash and then the air will blow normally.  I suspect this is a vacuum leak.  Within the past year or so I replaced a lot of the vacuum line.  But there must be more somewhere if this is the case.

I searched online for a few days and the only solution I found was to clean the MAF sensor as that apparently can cause some problem.  Oh, when this happens it doesn't give any OBDII codes.  Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Something like these?

Yes, exactly.  I have had my eye one that website for awhile.  I called them last year and they said that they were going to be in stock again before 2016.  That's the only retailer that I've found.

I'll happily take them off your hands.  I have an EV with a rickety old head unit that's about to bite the dust.  Can you contact me by email/IM?  I'll pay whatever the shipping is to 90274.

PM sent

You can try this one:  http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com/75494.html

I installed this dipstick on my van when I installed a new transmission cooler from the same company.

Exterior / Sliding Door Doesn't Want To Close In Colder Temps
« on: August 15, 2015, 01:00:44 pm »
My sliding door doesn't want to close sometimes when the temperature is "colder".  Anybody else have any experience with this?  If so any solutions to this problem?  Thanks a lot.

Interior! / Re: Heater is blowing foam
« on: August 15, 2015, 12:58:24 pm »
I had the opposite experience as you did.  My heat wouldn't work in the winter.  When I took the dash off the blend box looked just like the blend box in the link that you posted.  I never considered using foam to cover up the holes.  I did't want to do this fix again, and I thought if foam didn't work the first time why use it again.  Instead I used adhesive metal tape to cover the holes, and put adhesive foam around the outside of the flaps to ensure a seal; something like this:  http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-King-E-O-3-8-in-x-17-ft-Closed-Cell-Weather-Seal-Tape-V443H/100205904

I didn't remove the blend box like the guy in the link did.  I probably would have had to if my wife wasn't around.  She's got a lot skinnier arms than I do, so it was much easier for her to reach down inside and put the metal tape were it needed to go.

After doing this fix the heat and A/C have been working great, no more foam blowing out of the vents.  All in all I did this over a couple of days.  I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I can figure things out.  I'll look and see if I have any pictures of the project.

Show off your projects here! / Re: Auxiliary Battery
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:57:01 pm »
I finally got around to installing my house battery this past weekend.  I debated where to mount the battery; in the back of the van, under the driver's seat, or under the passenger seat.  Ultimately I opted to mount it under the passenger seat.  Mainly because it allowed me to use the factory brackets that held the cd changer in place.  I made a wood frame to hold the battery and then used the brackets to hold the battery in place.

I am partial to Odessey AGM batteries, I've owned a few of them over the years and have been pleased with their performance.  So with that in mind I looked to see which battery would fit.  Turns out that the PC 1200T, will fit with an inch or two to spare.

In the engine compartment there are some rubber grommets that yo can take out.  I ran the cables through there and around under the passenger plastic step and under the carpet up through the factory cut out through the carpet where the cables were run for the cd changer.  It took a bit of work to get everything right, but I think it ended up ok.

Another debate I had was where and how to supply power from the battery.  I  thought about pulling the plastic off the piller where the sliding door closes.  Or drilling through the base plate for the passenger seat.  Using a step drill bit I was able to get a few holes drilled through the attachment for the passenger seat.  Right now I've got a 12v plug, usb, and battery gauge mounted there.  In the future I'll route more wire to the aft of the van for some more 12v and usb plugs.
