Title: can you squash a 3" foam matt under mvwk top?

I think this subject has been covered but... I just bought a 3" gelfoam topper for the top bunk on my weekender and before I take out of the box can someone tell me if it can be left up there and the top closed without putting strain on the latch or top? Would love to not have to wrestle that thing into a fold and have it take up room when traveling esp since the wife wants one for the lower bunk. Thanks for any input.

With the stock mattress in place? No.

Without, it should fit.
