What goes in the hole above the windshield?

When we got our '93 Westfalia there was simply a DIN-sized hole above the map lights. I've been unable to find a) another Eurovan to look in and b) a picture of the area. What was supposed to go in there?

In the USA it just had a cover plate that said "Westfalia".

In other parts of the world where these came as full Westfalia campers there is some sort of control panel there.
