Shiny things you no longer want / Propane tank cover off '00 EVC
« on: November 12, 2015, 10:21:25 am »
I have a repaired, not perfect, plastic cover.  I repaired the cover with the intentions of using it with my newly replaced tank.  Unfortunately with the added "stay longer" valve assembly the cover no longer fits.  If interested, make me an offer.  Email pictures upon request.

Exterior / Upgraded swaybar?
« on: October 18, 2015, 06:03:16 pm »
Ok, my EVC Winnebago handles like a top-heavy pig even with the new Bilstein Sport shocks from GoWesty.  Has anybody upgraded their front swaybar and installed rear swaybar from a Weekender to a EVC Winnebago?  If so, please provide details.

VR6 Engine tech / Engine Operating Temperature?
« on: September 28, 2015, 08:39:26 am »
My wife and I took our fully loaded EVC out this weekend.  While going over some moderate passes in the Siskiyou Mountains my Garmin ecoRoute indicated temperatures as high as 250 degrees F.  Is that a safe operating temperature?  Also intake air temperature was well in excess of 140 degrees F.

Winnebago "Full Campers" / EVC sliding door window?
« on: September 23, 2015, 07:46:47 pm »
I noticed that some (maybe all) Weekender vans have an openable window on the sliding door.  Is this openable window the correct size to replace the non-openable window on the EVC?

Winnebago "Full Campers" / EVC Pop-Top Struts?
« on: September 20, 2015, 02:42:50 pm »
Last night at about 2 AM both my pop-top struts decided to fail.  I had noticed that the top was not being raised to the complete height over the past few camping trips and probably one had failed and was just waiting on the other.  Strange feeling waking up and not being able to move.

Anyway, where are replacements available?

Exterior / swapping out bumper covers?
« on: September 14, 2015, 09:55:35 am »
Both my front and rear white bumper covers have cosmetic damage.  After seeing many EuroVans with black bumpers I was wondering if it would be more cost effective to just install new black or find used black bumper covers rather than repair the cosmetic damage and paint black.  Are black bumper covers available from VW or do they come primed?

Winnebago "Full Campers" / Inside rear view mirror?
« on: September 13, 2015, 11:42:55 am »
The mirror on my EVC is mounted off center and is not cleared by the sun visor when dropped down.  In addition it is a floppy model.  New ones are way too expensive.  While driving it back home from the NY I managed to twist it off. without damage, and was amazed at the panoramic front view through the windshield without the thing.

Three questions:
1. How does a person get the glued on windshield mount off to reposition?
2. What replacement models are available?
3. Can the mirror windshield mount be tightened?

I have found two sources that say to change the differential gear lube (not talking about the ATF) in the VW:

Wikipedia entry:
transaxle.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_01M_transmission
This transmission has a separate oil for the differential in the transmission, so there are two fluid levels to check. The differential fluid is checked by unscrewing the speed sensor gear assembly and use it as a dipstick. The speed sensor gear assembly is located on top of the transmission just above the right inner CV joint. Differential is emptied by removing the final drive cover on the rear of the transmission or by vacuum extraction through the speed sensor hole. Vacuum extraction is the more attractive option since a paper gasket seals the steel cover and access is very difficult. Filling is through the speed sensor hole. Differential oil capacity is about 1 liter. An acceptable differential oil is Redline synthetic MT-90 75W90 gear oil or any synthetic 75W90 GL5 gear oil. Be very careful not to introduce sand or dust into the differential, as the differential has no way to filter its oil

GoWesty Maintenance Schedule:
http://www.gowesty.com/library_article.php?id=1424
MILEAGE SERVICE
Every 15,000 miles - Trans fluid service
• Gear oil change in differential section
• Automatic trans service, fully synthetic ATF and filter

When I told the VW dealer to change out the differential lube in the transaxle I got a a short lecture from the male service advisor (not the one that normally helps me) on how there is no differential lube in the transmission.

Anybody please advise.
