Headlight bulbs
« on: March 02, 2016, 02:54:32 pm »
Never been happy w/ the output from my headlights on my 93 Weekend MV. Has anyone tried the HE replacement bulbs from GoWesty? http://www.gowesty.com/product-details.php?id=24115 - looks like this would work well (and better than stock). I haven't found any other solutions outside of this.. does anyone know of any other lighting upgrades? Or do these GoWesty bulbs make a big difference?

After a couple weeks of waiting, my lights came in.  While bolting them in is simple, they seem to have a different connector than the OEM lights.  The OEM lights have an external 3 prong connector.  However the aftermarket light has a slightly different connector.  Specifically it has a 4 prong connector.  Any thoughts?

Are you talking about the Depo angel eyes?

The fourth prong is for the "parking light" -- something found on European models.

You can read some of the details on the wiring up in this thread: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5693040-Ordered-some-Depos-for-the-EV

That was exactly the help I needed.  I think I've found a slightly better way.  I bought one of these.

I'll snip off the blue connector and wire in an H4 adapter, and then run the halos into the parking lights.

Interesting - but isn't this just as much work to tap into the plug (and save yourself $29.99 as well)?

Also, if you want to replace the halo lights with LEDS -- the bulb size is T5 286 wedge.

Am I wrong in thinking that the picture is for a 96-03 EV?  I looked at the site and they do have some for a 93 as well, but the styles/shapes are different.
