This is my 2nd ignition coil in 15,000miles dont know if thats a normal amount of time for one to go bad. But always have heard that eurovans go through them quickly. Just wandering if anyone knows why?

FWIW, 2001 EVC with 155K miles still has original ignition coils.

i had the original till 187,000, then changed it, drove it 15,000 more miles and it just went out yesterday, thankfully it was a lifetime at autozone.... that could also be the problem haha its a autozone part not oem.

That might explain it. I would check with VW dealers on OEM coilpacks availability, they had a liquidation sale a few months back - OEM coils were going on sale for something like $9 each.

I was having some ignition issues when I first got the van, in addition to a tune up I got a battery cover for the battery/ignition coil area since the area can get wet which isn't great for the coil (should be sealed, but can't hurt).

Isnt the 2001 a 24v with coil on plug? The 12v uses a coil pack.

Did you test the ohms on the secondary pairs? If tou have a bad pair test those plugs and plug wires for high resistance because high resistance on plugs and plug wires is usally the cause of premature coil pack failure. If there is no secondary failure test the voltage on primary and then the ohm test to the ecu. Sometimes the connector can cause problems but it is important to test before you replace then you will have an indication where the problem is.
