Title: P0740 - Dead on the side of the road
Post by: erik.wahlstrom on August 19, 2016, 09:50:35 pm
Well crap. Driving down the hwy at 70 when the Rpms spiked to 5000 the to 1000. I pulled off and was leaking transmission fluid. Scanned the car it it said P0740 torque converter clutch circuit open. There is a massive fluid leak.

This van is starting to become a money pit.

I feel your pain. The last time I've checked VW still had a few re-manufactured transmissions available in the US.
Let us know how does it turn out.

Well, the van is in the shop.  I should know more later today.  I think I got lucky, maybe.  There was clear transmission fluid sprayed all over the engine bay.  Last June I had a full transmission replacement and had a gowesty transmission cooler installed.  It looks like the lower hose clamp failed and the hose had nearly popped off.

BEWARE: Check your transmission cooler hose clamps.
