2002 Itasca Sunstar. Anyone running an "all weather" tire that doesn't lean toward being a snow tire? I have the Vanco 2 summer tire and while they are good quiet tires they are terrible on wet grass or muddy gravel. I got caught in Nashville's ice storm and couldn't get out of a parking lot without rocking- this on about 2" icy slush with tires just spinning. Anyone running an all terrain tire? Any suggestions appreciated.

General Discussion / change or not- trans fluid in high milage 2002
« on: February 02, 2017, 08:41:37 am »
Bought a 2002 Eurovan based Winnebago Itasca Sunstar with 90K. There areno service records from the past three ownerships but I did run a CARFAX and it was serviced regularly at a VW dealer up to 50K. After that??  I have changed oil and air filters and want to change trans fluid but the VW mechanic and another mechanic says I shouldn't change because it would "thin out" the protective coating on internal parts. I have regularly changed the fluid on my 02 weekender since new and will continue that. But not knowing the service history of this camper and the advice I've received I'm stuck as what to do about a trans fluid change-or not. Anyone here have some experience that can help with a decision?
Thanks all.

Interior! / How do you remove hatch panel
« on: September 21, 2016, 11:40:29 am »
I need to repair my rear washer wiper nozzle on my 02 weekender but not sure how to remove interior panel and what tools to use. Will I need new fasteners or will the ones in there now be reusable?Any help or photos would be appreciated.

Winnebago "Full Campers" / Talk me out of buying a Winnebago VW VISTA
« on: August 21, 2016, 03:41:47 pm »
Been camping in my 02weekender since new but now that I'm 65 have a desire for more creature comforts (bathroom) than a full EV camper can provide. I also camp in my 85 Westy so can appreciate the full kitchen and tables vw campers provide. I want to stay in the vw family and have developed a serous attraction to the 02-05 Winnebago Vista. It seems to have all the things I want or need in a camper except the smaller size of my weekender or a EVC. Anyone have experience - good or bad- with these class B 21 ft beauties. I have found a couple on craigs list and before I start down this road I would appreciate any words of wisdom. Thanks all.

Westfalia / can you squash a 3" foam matt under mvwk top?
« on: April 02, 2016, 09:04:42 am »
I think this subject has been covered but... I just bought a 3" gelfoam topper for the top bunk on my weekender and before I take out of the box can someone tell me if it can be left up there and the top closed without putting strain on the latch or top? Would love to not have to wrestle that thing into a fold and have it take up room when traveling esp since the wife wants one for the lower bunk. Thanks for any input.

Exterior / How do you fix sagging front end
« on: October 15, 2015, 08:34:54 am »
Hi all. I have a 02 weekender that seems to have the sagging front. How is the measurement made to determine this and what is the fix? Is there other parts to check or replace before the front can be lifted? Thanks for any help.
