This one isn't a full paint job but looks cool with the bottom portion done in bedlinen and all the other black accents.

Discovered on craigslist.

Winnebago "Full Campers" / Custom Painted Winnebago Full Campers.
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:42:58 am »
Unfortunately all the Winnebago full campers only came in one color, white.

They can look so cool with custom paint. Here are a few pictures I've found and saved over time. If you have a cool painted Full Camper, let's see it.

Found for sale on the Samba a while back.

Haha ;D

I'm sure if we all pull together and spread the word and recreate as many links and tech as possible then this place will take on a life of its own.

I'd kinda like to know this too.

I just got a 5 cyl van that has the oil light on but clearly had oil pressure. Might be nice to add a real gauge or ?

Here you can see the Yakima nuts on the inside of the top.

Westfalia / Yakima roof tracks on a Westfalia top.

This question comes up fairly often.

The Westfalia top is fiberglass with two layers of wood inside. This makes it a MUCH more durable top than the Winnebago plastic top. For this reason it supports roof tracks really well.

I prefer the tracks over "artificial gutter mounts" because the tracks allow for a wide range of adjustability, look like a factory install, spread the load over a greater distance with more attachment points,  and provide options for things like solar panels.

I've always used the 60" tracks to get the most coverage.

Mount them about a foot from the rear of the top. This puts the load near the rear of the top to make it easier to open. But also give plenty of reach towards the front of the top. No reason to be clear at the rear of the top.

The tops get really heavy, really fast. So you may want to add extra gas struts to the top to make it easier to lift with a load.

I mount them 36" apart. This puts them in the ideal support range for the cross bars. It also puts the trans near but not directly over the edges of the top. It also clears the hinge mounts.

The stock Yakima bolts that come with the tracks are not long enough. You will need to replace them with at least 1.4" bolts. I use stainless steel to prevent corrosion. Make sure the heads are no thicker than the stock Yakima bolts. These are easy to find at any ACE Hardware or similar.

Use a good outdoor silicone. Make sure to spread it on the holes before putting the bolts in. This will ensure a watertight seal.

A few comments on wheel "ET"

Every wheel should have a stamp on the back side of the spokes indicating its "et". It will say something like "et35" or "et45". This measurement is in mm.

The LOWER the number the further OUT the wheel will stick.

The HIGHER the number, the further IN the wheel will sit.

An et35 wheel will stick out 10mm further than an et45 wheel for example.

Many people run aftermarket et35 wheels because these are very common in the Audi/VW world. This makes the edge of the tire stick out past the edge of the fender on a Eurovan. Not far, but enough that it will effect what tires you can run.

When a wheel sticks out too far it puts it closer to interfering with the corners of the fender when turning and the upper lip of the fender when going over bumps.(wheel won't go up inside the fender but hits the lip)

To make these common et35 wheels work you must limit the height and width of your tires and be okay with the edge of the tire sticking out just a touch.

I've found that an et42 is a much better fitting wheel on a Eurovan. This puts the edge of the wheel 13mm further in.

Keeping them just under the fender lip of the Eurovan and allowing the maximum height and width tire.

An 8" wide wheel will clear the suspension components with et42!!

Using et42 wheels I've been able to fit 255/45/18" tires  and also 225/70/16" tires!!

Both of those wider and taller than many people have thought possible!  The 255/70/16 require a small .75" lift for best fit.

Thanks guys!  (.....to quote my wife here "That's Awesome")

I would like to see it work out for everyone.

I think these are great vans but aren't being given the space and credit they deserve here in the USA. The rest of the world seems to get it.

We will just have to see where this goes
