Title: Early vs Late Steering Wheels

After installing a 2000 "blue" instrument cluster into my early '99 GLS, I'm considering also swapping out the steering wheel for a late-model wheel. Does anybody know if the clock-spring from the early '99 mounts into the 2000+ steering wheel? Or will I also need to locate the matching clock-spring?

I've got a 97 t4 and would like to know same thing.  Also will I have to change to a different stalk?
