Interior! / Sliding door won't open!
« on: September 14, 2016, 06:07:26 pm »
So I've run into a bit of an issue with my sliding door. The exterior handle has been giving me some trouble for the past couple weeks and then last nightie finally stopped working. The interior handle does not work either as it seems the lock is not engaging. I've cycled thru the auto locks a couple times also. Since I've taken the door panel off and examined the lock mechanism. I have posted some pictures below of what I am looking at, does anybody know exactly what to adjust? The rod looks to be in good condition and all is hooked up, but doesn't seem to travel far enough to engage the unlock/lock at the rear of the door. This doesn't seem to be as easy as some other vehicles I've worked on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Westfalia / Pop-Top Cleaning
« on: August 19, 2016, 08:31:51 am »
So a short introduction - I bought a 1993 Eurovan MV Weekender 5cyl 5spd a couple of weeks ago that had been sitting for sometime. The body is in decent shape but will eventually need a respray and the top was disgusting! A couple of layers of dirt/mold/grease/sap and whatever else was caked onto the top of the van.

I did some research and bought a couple different products from Amazon and GoWesty. I first started with a soak down and wash with regular car wash soap with a light scrub to clean any basic dirt off. Then brought in the good stuff to get the gunk off.

I went with Davis Industries FSR - Fiberglass Stain Remover and boy did this work great! While reading the reviews some people mentioned that all they had to do was apply softly and let rest for a couple minutes with a quick hose down to eliminate dirt. This method DID NOT work for me as I had to scrub with some microfiber cloths and soft brushes for about an hour.

After the light wash and a first round of applying and letting soak with a wash.

After the first night of cleaning I feel good about the product and would recommend this to anybody that needs to clean the top of there pop-top. I am going to give it another scrub early next week as I had to order another can of FSR.

Westfalia / Where do you guys buy/find parts from?
« on: August 12, 2016, 12:10:27 pm »
Hello - Just seeing where you guys go to find "common" parts for these vehicles. It seems that the dealer is a long shot as well as any local "distributors". Do you guys buy online from any particular sites? I know of GoWesty and busdepot but is that it? I am in the process of renovating a 93 weekender and am looking for anything from speedo cables to window switches.

I look forward to hearing back from you guys. Seems like this can cause an issue when anything mechanical comes up.

Has anybody run into this issue? I just purchased a 1993 mv weekender 5spd and it seems to be running fine (high mileage). But when downshifting in coming to a stop if I leave in gear and hold clutch the vehicle will shut off. I can either pop it to start back up or crnak the key but the shutting off is worrying me.

Any thoughts?
