Pistons for a '95 ACU engine rebuild
« on: November 29, 2016, 10:42:15 am »
I'm looking at an engine rebuild for my '95 EVC, the ACU engine. Does anyone have any tips or experience with tracking down any third party pistons to use in a rebuild? There are apparently some left from VW directly, but the price is pretty outrageous at something like $300/ea. The shop is having some difficulty tracking some down, which I realize why now as they're quite hard to find now.

Anyone know what the deal is with DiamondPower? They look to be one of the only places left to source these. Someone also seems to have come across this Amazon listing, but looks much to good to be true no?

https://www.amazon.com/VOLKSWAGEN-EUROVAN-2-5L-SOHC-Pistons/dp/B00HAND32M - also is that spec correct that these pistons work in the AAF, ACU, AET, AEU engines - that seems like a broad range spanning a lot of years? Or does that sound correct. Not saying I'll buy these, but if it looks like they're coming from DiamondPower I wouldn't be surprised if the ones I get from directly from them would essentially be the same thing?

Any help would be appreciated. Really starting to feel the rarity of having a van with this engine!

PS van has 325k KM on it, and is in otherwise great shape so will be biting the bullet to get her back on the road hopefully.

Thanks in advance.

If you want to increase bore and stroke, Overland Parts sells the pistons you need (also expensive at $1308 for the set).  Go to page 30 of their online catalog and you will see:
EFP 107 2705 4VT 9.1, PISTON SET, INCLUDES PINS, CLIPS AND RINGS, JE, 5 CYL, 83.0MM BORE, 100MM STROKE. 9.0:1 C/R.

I am seeing the stock ones on sale for $216 each:
