I've got my swap started and will add the link at the bottom. Wish I would have built it here originally. My real question though is about removing the extension arm from the transmission. I've removed the 4 bolts and the speedo sensor. The arm doesn't want to come off, at least easily. Is there something else attached inside main housing that is holding it together?

You can't really see much on VagCat (although it references illustration 409-10 and I'm not sure how to find that), but it does look like the four bolts are the only thing holding on the case part.
I wonder if there may be a circlip holding it in.
There's more information on the T4 wiki, but my German is terrible so Google Translate is your friend. Hopefully this will help: Google Translate Link (https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?act=url&depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.t4-wiki.de/wiki/Steckwelle&usg=ALkJrhgasZK37ZPP2ml3vEjSo79olPiiDw)

You must gently but firmly beat the arm off the Trans housing. There is a strike pad built into the trumpet arm for this purpose. Just be smart and use a deadblow or other rubber malet, no steel!

I just did this last night. Pretty much what Justin said. I used a rubber mallet. I find it easier to remove the axle/flange first and leave the housing on the gearbox case. I used the flange that the CV bolts to as the point to hammer on with the rubber mallet. Once the axle is removed, the housing comes off a bit easier. Again, just the rubber mallet to get the housing off also.

Great, I'll give it a try. I've got a rubber mallet. I should have asked before, but I haven't been able to find the gasket that goes in there. I'm sure that's the cause of the leak. From diagrams I've looked at, there is just a flat ring. Is that gasket sold on it's own, or would have to be in a kit? I must not have set my options to get emailed upon replies, so thanks for the quick responses, I just didn't see them till I just went in.

Dead blow hammers are worth the expense and are cheap at Harbor Freight.

Still no luck getting the trumpet off with my rubber mallet. Time to get a dead blow hammer.

Trumpet came off just fine with the rubber mallet. Just had to hit it harder. The wasn't a gasket in there. Probably the reason for the leak.
-
If my memory is correct, there is a seal where the axle comes out and an oring where it mates with the transmission case. I don't think there are any gaskets in there.
-
You were right. There's an oring in there. Has a little chunk out of it.

Here is the trumpet O-ring p/n: 098321183. For reference it is 85x2.5mm.

Thanks. I was having a tough time figuring out a replacement, because I couldn't find the part number.
