I crawled under and checked it all out. It does not look at all like anything is touching the tie rod end.  I have bigger problems now: I had a severe vibration in the rear of van after I mounted the new tires. I took them back for a rebalance and tire person said the rim was bent slightly. He balanced it out and I put it on the right rear. Vibration is better but still there. Guess that's what I get for buying used rims.  Plus the new tires are really noisy. I am probably going to have to get another used rim.

Thanks Cole- I'll check closer into the clearances. Where would I find a 5mm spacer??

I just mounted some 225/60/16 Nokian WR G3 tires on et45 Audi wineglass wheels. I was worried about rubbing but they seem ok. The specs I found say the rim is 8". After mounting them I have a metallic grinding clunking noise in the front when I slow down. I discovered my passenger side outer tie rod was ripped. I don't know if the new tires/larger wheels caused this or not.

VR6 Engine tech / Re: Transmission filler tube leak

All fixed!  It was nerve racking dealing with that ribbon cable as I didn't want to damage it.  It was the O-ring on the sensor. I replaced it when I did a filter change. I also added a dipstick and no more leaks!!  Thank you for all the help.

VR6 Engine tech / Oil cooler gasket

Hi, I think I have a slight leak in the oil cooler on my '99.  I just picked up the two gaskets to re-do it and am looking for the torque spec for the oil cooler housing bolt and cooler bolt. I don't want to over tighten things. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Neil.

The bed boards rattle on my van also, drives me nuts to the point of me pushing up on the one that I can reach while driving.

Just curious what everybody is running for engine oil. I have a 1999 EV weekender and have been using Mobil1 0w40, I may run the Mobil1 5w40 next. I have a big adventure planned later this month from the UP of Michigan to Florida. Just starting to get the van ready and the oil change is due soon.
Thanks!

Tires and wheels! / Re: Found some 16" wheels

Yes, that looks like them. I am picking them up this week and will start cleaning them up. They have lots of brake dust caked on. I'll post a pic when I get them. That is interesting about that picture!  I will have to check that website out.

I will when I pick them up next week. The guy I am buying them from is parting out an Audi A6 and they are on it.  Wish there were other parts that would fit on my van from the A6 because it's in good shape, just a bad motor.

VR6 Engine tech / Re: Engine Operating Temperature?

If it was warm out the intake temp may be right. It's hot in that engine compartment and doesn't take long for the intake temps to go above 100. The water temp seems high to me. Maybe somebody else has more info about it. I'm not sure what's normal in the mountains-we don't have many here in the UP of Michigan.  Normally my water temp in the summer was 180-220.

Was the 250 your water temp?  That seems high, but I have never used a Garmin to monitor the systems- most use the Scangauge.  Maybe more info would help.

Tires and wheels! / Found some 16" wheels
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:30:08 pm »
Hi, I've been keeping my eyes open for a set of 16" wheels and ended up finding a set.  An import shop that works on vw's had an Audi A6 that they were parting out and the guy agreed to sell me the "wine glass" wheels. They need a good cleaning but look pretty good. I'm getting them for $175/set.  After I clean them up I'll decide if I should paint them black or not. Still on the fence about it. Does anybody else have these wheels?
Thanks,
-Neil.

So you sprayed it?  I know there are roller kits available too. Since you did this-would you say sprayingwould be better than rolling it?  Just looking for your opinion, I am going to tackle the project this winter.
